Jason,
You have a good understanding of many things already! I do not wish to "open
a can of worms" but may I point out that the original King James version had
eighty (80) books in it. The 14 books that were removed were not taken out
until the late 1860's by the American Bible Society. As far as the "Catholic
Church" setting the cannon, bear in mind it was the only portion left of the
early church at this junction of history.
As you so aptly pointed out it is not the true early church, simply all that
was left of it after the early church allowed the pagan "Babylonian Mystery
Religions" in and began to function with their beliefs instead of the
teachings of Messiah. It is equally sad, but this same thing happened to the
beliefs and practices that were handed down to Meses on Mt. Sinai. When the
House of Judah returned from the Babylonian captivity they brought with them
a collection of books "the Babylonian Talmud" that has many of its
interpretations based in paganism just as the church now has as well.
Rabbinic Judaism is not based on the Bible (re. "Old Testament") but is based
on these books.
Just as the Catholic Church system is in error when compared to scripture, so
Rabbinic Judaism is equally in error compared to scripture.
Keep studying brother, God will reveal to you the things He wants you to
know.
Blessings,
Jerry

Hello there Jerry.
With respect to the early editions of the KJV having 80 books, and some
were taken out later. Just to correct the impression that would be drawn
from that - please note:
Some Bibles are published with the Apocrapha contained within. This is not
common practice, but is found on some occasions.
Some early editions of the KJV had the Apocrapha contained within. But the
pages of these extra books were boldly outlined to let the reader know that
the text was not accepted as part of the Scriptures, but included for
information purposes.
The fact that the Apocrapha is contained within the same covers as the rest
of the Bible text did not imply that these extra books had the same weight
as the rest of the Bible.
In recent times it has become normal practice for the Bible to be published
without the Apocrapha contained, but every so often a new translation
appears where it is found in the standard published book.
As for the point that the extra books were not taken out until 1860 by the
American Bible Society. Please note that the KJV was originally published
in 1611 in England by government selected publishers, and it was not normal
practice for the Apocrapha to be included. The fact that it was included in
some editions does not imply that to be a standard practice.
As for the claim that at the time of the "canonization" of the New
Testament Scriptures, the only portion of the early church in existance was
the Catholic church, is overlooking some obvious facts of church history.
There has always been an un-corrupted church - it may have been small - a
remnant in fact. It may even been persecuted by the mainline "church", but
nevertheless it always was there. Yeshua, promised that He would build His
Church and the Gates of Hades WOULD NOT prevail against it.
So we should think again with repect to church history and the canonization
of the Scriptures.
Yours in Yeshua's name

Eddie:
Jerry Baker made a stetement in his letter concerning the "Babylonian
Talmud" being brought back from the Babylonian Jews after the 70 year
captivity and that it was based on the Babylonian mystery religion.
This is in error.
The Babylonian Talmud did not even exist until circa 200 C.E. It is a
collection of teachings, commentaries and halakic law that was
collected in Babylon. There is another Talmud, the "Palestinian
Talmud", also. Neither Talmud is based on Babylonian mystery
religion. If there is anything close to that in Jewish literature, it
is the Kabalah.
Please post this on the net so the error can be corrected.
Remy

Hi Philip:
I thought you might be interested in these....
It is a list I recieved at church long ago, I dont have any
documentation with them, however that wouldn't make much difference.
The verification one needs is found when one does his or her own
research and finds evidence or discredite for themselves.
Any good famly Encyclopedia will also give you a basic grip on the New
Testament. Shalom Ken S.
