Eddie,
In your respones to the tithing ? did abram just save his brothers son lot
and in his victory take the spoils of war from those who had taken lot, and
did he then give melchizedek after he was blessed by him give him a tithe of
the spoils.
this seams to be a large leap to use this story to support tithing today .
the context of the book brashit ( genesis) is historical the context of the
chapter is about a war of which abram got caught up in because of lots
captour. the tithe in the torah was set up to support the preisthood
and there needs.
the western church also seams to have a need to support it modern day
preisthood, paster needs a 6 figure income big house new cars etc. and
that all fine and good if his flock wants to do that. but were in the
brit hadashah (newer testament) is it chaper and verse where Yeshua
comands the tithe.
in proverbs it teaches honer the L-RD from your wealth and from the
first of your produce, that i think is what we should use as a guide. i know
that my view does not digest well with other brothers and sisters ,
sorry :-)

***************
Do you realize that the entire OT is a HISTORY of the nation
of Israel? Why did God write the Bible through the inspiration of the
Holy Spirit and tell us HISTORY? The answer is found in Romans 15:4:
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our
LEARNING that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might
have hope"
In I Corinthians 10:11 it is written:
"Now these things happened unto them for examples: and they were
written for our admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come"
In Genesis 14:17-24 it tells how Abraham gave tithes to
Melchizedek. What is our example?
Abraham is the father of our faith (Romans 4:16). Spiritually,
we are the children of Abraham and heirs of what God promised him
(Galations 3:16, 29).
Abraham gives tithes unto Melchizedek after being victorious
over the King of Sodom. Sodom is a picture of the world and the
world's system. When Abraham was blessed by God and defeated his
enemies, he gave tithes to Melchizedek. Melchizedek is a TYPE of
Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah.
Melchizedek is the Strong's Word (4442). It comes from two
Hebrew words (Melek = 4428 which means king) and (Tzedek = 6664 which
means righteousness). So, Melchizedek means "king of righteousness".
This is a term for Yeshua/Jesus. In Hebrews 7:1-4, 8, 21 it is written:
"For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God,
who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed
him; to whom also Abraham gave a TENTH part of all; first being my
interpretation King of Righteousness. and after that also King of
Salem, which is, King of Peace; without father, without mother,
without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life,
but made like unto the Son of God abideth a priest continually. Now
consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriach Abraham
gave the TENTH of his spoils ... And HERE men that die receive
tithes: but THERE HE (Yeshua/Jesus) receiveth them, of whom it is
witnessed that HE liveth ... the Lord swore and will not repent,
Thou (Yeshua/Jesus) are a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec"
So, here Yeshua/Jesus is being likened to Melchisedec. Even
as Melchisedec had no beginning and no end, so does Yeshua/Jesus.
Even as Melchisedec means "King of Righteousness and King of Peace"
so is Yeshua/Jesus the "King of Righteousness and the King of Peace".
Being a type of Melchisedec, it tells us in Hebrew 7:8 that HE
RECEIVES TITHES"
In Genesis 14:23 it is written:
" .... I (Abraham) will not take anything that is thine, lest thou
shouldest say, I have made Abraham rich"
In Deuteronomy 8:10, 13, 17-18 it is written:
"When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord
thy God for the good land which he hath given thee ... and when thy
herds and thy flocks mulitply, and thy silver and thy gold be
multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied ... And you say in
thine heart, MY power and the might of MINE hand has gotten me this
wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that
giveth thee power to get wealth, that HE MAY ESTABLISH HIS COVENANT
which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day"
In II Corinthians 9:6-11 it is written:
"But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly:
and he which soweth bountifully shall reap bountifully. Every man
according as he has purposeth in his heart, so let him give: not
grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver. And God
is able to make all grace abound toward you: that you ALWAYS HAVING
all sufficiency in all things may abound to every good work. As it is
written: He hat dispersed abroad: he hath given to the poor: his
righteousness remaineth forever (Psalm 112:9). Now he that ministers
SEED to the SOWER both minister bread for your food and MULTIPLY YOUR
SEED sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness"
Presently, we are nearing the celebration of the Feast of
Shavuot (Weeks). In Deuteronomy 16:9-10, 17 it is written:
"Seven weeks shall you number unto thee: begin to number the seven
weeks from such time as you begin to put the sickle to the corn. And
you shall KEEP the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a
TRIBUTE of a FREEWILL OFFERING of THINE HAND which thou shalt give
unto the Lord God according as the Lord thy God has blessed thee ...
every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the
Lord thy God which he hath given thee".
There is a spiritual principle in the Bible that we
are to give to God a portion of our increase. In Proverbs 3:9 it
is written:
"Honor the Lord with thy substance and with the firstfruits of all
thine increase"
So, we are definately commanded to give of our
material blessing back to God and a tithe should be the goal of the
every believer.
