"A Song of Ascents; of David.
'If it had not been the Lord who was for us'
Let Israel now say;
'If it had not been the Lord who was for us,
When men rose up against us,
Then they had swallowed us up alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
Then the waters had overwhelmed us,
The stream had gone over our soul;
Then the proud waters
Had gone over our soul'.
Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth"

[Psalm 124]

THE BIBLE SAYS (about the Golan):

Numbers 21:33-35 --

"And they turned and went up by the way of BASHAN; and Og the king of
BASHAN went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
And the Lord said unto Moses:  'Fear him not; for I have delivered him into
your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you
did unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon'.  So they smote
him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him
remaining, and they possessed the land".

[Numbers 21:33-35]

********

Numbers 32:33 --

"And Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children
of Reuben, and unto the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the
kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of
BASHAN, the land, according to the cities thereof with their borders, even
the cities of the land round about".

[Numbers 32:33]

Deuteronomy 1:3-5 --

"And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the
first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel,
according to all that the Lord had given him in commandment to them; after
he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og
the king of BASHAN, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei, beyong the Jordan, in
the land of Moab, took Moses upon him to expound this Torah, saying..."

[Deuteronomy 1:3-5]

Deuteronomy 3:1-11 --

"Then we turned, and went up the way to BASHAN; and Og the king of BASHAN
came out against us, he and all his people, unto battle at Edrei.  And the
Lord said to me:  'Fear him not; for I have delivered his, and all his
people, and his land, into your hand; and you shalt do unto him as you did
unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon'.  So the Lord our
God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of BASHAN, and all his
people; and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

And we took all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we took
not from them; threescore cities, all the region of Arbog, the kingdom of
Og in BASHAN.  All these were fortified citieis, with high walls, gates and
bars; beside the unwalled towns a great many.  And we utterly destroyed
them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying every city,
the men, and the women, and the little ones.  But all the cattle, and the
spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.  And we took the land
at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites that were
beyond the Jordan, from the valley of Arnon unto Mount HERMON, which HERMON
the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir, all the cities
of the plain, and all Gilead, and all BASHAN, unto Salcah and Edrei, cities
of the kingdom of Og in BASHAN.  For only Og king of BASHAN remained of the
remnant of the Rephaim; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it
not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon?  nine cubits was the length
thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man."

[Deuteronomy 3:1-11]

Deuteronomy 4:47-49 --

"and they took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of BASHAN,
the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan toward the
sunrising, from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon, even
unto Mount Sion -- the same is HERMON -- and all the Arabah beyond the
Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of
Pisgah."

[Deuteronomy 4:47-49]

Joshua 13:7-14 --

"'Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes,
and the half-tribe of Manasseh'.  With him the Reubenites and the Gadites
received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan
eastward, even as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them; from Aroer, that
is on the edge of the valley of Aroer, and the city that is in the middle
of the valley, and all the table-land from Medeba unto Dibon; and all the
cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the
border of the children of Ammon; and Gilead, and the border of the
Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount HERMON, and all BASHAN unto
Salcah; all the kingdom of Og in BASHAN, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in
Edrei -- the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim -- for these did
Moses smite, and drove them out."

[Joshua 13:7-14]

Joshua 21:27 --

"And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of
the half-tribe of Manasseh, they gave GOLAN in BASHAN with the open land
about it, the city of refuge for the manslayer; and Beeshterah with the
open land about it; two cities".

[Joshua 21:27]

Isaiah 33:7-12

"Behold, their valiant ones cry without.  The ambassadors of peace weep
bitterly.  The highways are laid waste.  The wayfaring man ceases.  He has
broken the covenant.  He has despised the cities.  He regards not man.  The
land mourns and languishes.  Lebanon is ashamed, it withers.  Sharon is
like a wilderness, and BASHAN and Carmel are clean bare.  Now I will arise,
says the Lord.  Now will I be exalted.  Now will I lift myself up.  You
conceive chaff, you shall bring forth stubble.  Your breath is a fire that
shall devour you.  And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as
thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire."

[Isaiah 33:7-12]

Jeremiah 22:20-23

"Go up to Lebanon, and cry.  And lift up your voice in BASHAN, and cry from
Abarim, for all your lovers are destroyed.  I spoke to you in your
prosperity, but you said, 'I will not hear'.  This has been your manner
from your youth, that you hearken not to My voice.  The wind shall feed
upon all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go into captivity, surely
then shall you be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.  O
inhabitant of Lebanon, you are nestled in the cedars, how gracious shall
you be when pangs come upon you, the pain as of a woman in travail!"

[Jeremiah 22:20-23]

Jeremiah 50:17-20

"Israel is a scattered sheep, the lions have driven him away.  First the
king of Assyria has devoured him, and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of
Babylon has broken his bones.  Therefore, thus says the Lord of Hosts, the
G-d of Israel:  Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as
I have punished the king of Assyria.  And I will bring Israel back to his
pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and BASHAN, and his soul shall be
satisfied upon the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.  In those days, and in
that time, says the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and
there shall be none, and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found.
For I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant."

[Jeremiah 50:17-20]

Ezekiel 39:17-29

"And you, son of man, thus says the Lord G-d:  Speak to the birds of every
sort, and to every beast of the field:  Assemble yourselves, and come;
gather yourselves on every side to My feast that I do prepare for you, even
a great feast, upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and
drink blood.  The flesh of the mighty shall you eat, and the blood of the
princes of the earth shall you drink; rams, lambs, and goats, bullocks,
fatlings of BASHAN are they all of them.  And you shall eat fat till you be
full, and drink blood till you be drunk, of My feast which I have prepared
for you.  And you shall be filled at My table with horses and horsemen,
with mighty men, and with all men of war, says the Lord G-d.  And I will
set My glory among the nations, and all the nations shall see My judgment
that I have executed, and My hand that I have laid upon them.  So the house
of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their G-d, from that day and
forward.  And the nations shall know that the house of Israel went into
captivity for their iniquity, because they broke faith with Me, and I hid
My face from them, so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and
they fell all of them by the sword.  According to their uncleanness and
according to their transgressions did I to them, and I hid My face from
them.

Therefore, thus says the Lord G-d:  Now will I bring back the captivity of
Jacob, and have compassion on the whole house of Israel; and I will be
jealous for My holy name.  And they shall bear their shame, and all their
breach of faith wich they have committed against Me, when they shall dwell
safely in their land, and none shall make them afraid; when I have brought
them back from the peoples, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands,
and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations.  And they shall
know that I am the Lord their G-d, in that I caused them to go into
captivity among the nations, and have gathered them unto their own land;
and I will leave none of them anymore there; neither will I hide My face
any more from them; for I have poured out My spirit upon the house of
Israel, says the Lord G-d".

Amos 4:1-2

"Hear this word, you kine of BASHAN, that are in the mountain of Samaria,
that oppress the poor, that crush the needy, that say to their lords:
'Bring, that we may feast'.  The Lord G-d has sworn by His holiness:  Lo,
surely the days shall come upon you, that you shall be taken away with
hooks, and your residue with fish-hooks, and you shall go out at the
breaches, every one straight before her, and you shall be cast into Harmon,
says the Lord".

[Amos 4:1-2]

Micah 7:14-20

"Tend Your people with Your staff, the flock of Your heritage, that dwell
solitarily, as a forest in the midst of the fruitful field.  Let them feed
in BASHAN and Gilead, as in the days of old.  As in the days of your coming
forth out of the land of Egypt will I show to him marvellous things.  The
nations shall see and be put to shame for all their might.  They shall lay
their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.  They shall lick the
dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come
trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear to the Lord
our G-d, and shall be afraid because of You.  Who is a G-d like You, that
pardons the iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His
heritage?  He retains not His anger forever, because He delights in mercy.
He will again have compassion upon us.  He will subdue our iniquities, and
You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.  Thou will show
faithfulness to Jacob, mercy to Abraham, as You have sworn to our fathers
from the days of old".

[Micah 7:14-20]

Nahum 1:1-10

"The burden of Nineveh.  The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
The Lord is a jealous and avenging G-d, the Lord avenges and is full of
wrath, the Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath
for His enemies.  The Lord is long-suffering and great in power, and will
by no means clear the guilty.  The Lord in the whirlwind and in the storm
is His way, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.  He rebukes the sea,
and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers.  BASHAN languishes and
Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languishes.  The mountains quake at Him,
and the hills melt, and the earth is upheaved at His presence, yes, the
world, and all that dwell therein.  Who can stand before His indignation?
And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger?  His fury is poured out
like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder before Him.  The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows them that take refuge in
Him.  But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of the place
thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies.  What do you devise against
the Lord?  He will make a full end.  Trouble shall not rise up the second
time.  For thought hey be like tangled thorns, and be drunken according to
their drink, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry."

[Nahum 1:1-10]

Psalm 22:10-14 --

"For Thou art He that took me out of the womb; Thou made me trust when I
was upon my mother's breasts.  Upon You I have been cast from my birth.
You are my G-d from my mother's womb.  Be not far from me, for trouble is
near.  For there is none to help.  Many bulls have encompassed me, strong
bulls of BASHAN have beset me round.  They open wide their mouth against
me, as a ravening and a roaring lion".

Psalm 68:16-24 --

"A mountain of G-d is the mountain of BASHAN.  A mountain of peaks is the
mountain of BASHAN.  Why look you askance, you mountains of peaks, at the
mountain which G-d has desired for His abode?  Yes, the Lord will dwell
therein forever.  The chariots of G-d are myriads, even thousands upon
thousands.  The Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in holiness.  You have
ascended on high.  You have led captivitiy captive.  You have received
gifts among men.  Yes, among the rebellious also, that the Lord G-d might
dwell there.  Blessed be the Lord, day by day He bears our burden.  Even
the G-d who is our salvation.  Selah.  G-d is unto us a G-d of
deliverances, and unto G-d the Lord belong the issues of death.  Surely G-d
will smite through the head of His enemies, the hairy scalp of him that
goes about in is guiltiness.  The Lord said:  'I will bring back from
BASHAN, I will brim them back from the depths of the sea; that your foot
may wade through blood, that the tongue of your dogs may have its portion
from your enemies'".

Psalm 89:12-19

"Yours are the heavens, Yours also is the earth; the world and the fulness
thereof, You have founded them.  The north and the south, You have created
them; Tabor and HERMON rejoice in Your name.  Yours is an arm with might;
strong is Your hand, and exalted is Your right hand.  Righteousness and
justice are the foundation of Your throne, mercy and truth go before You.
Happy is the people that knows the joyful shout; they walk, O Lord, in the
light of Your countenance.  In Your name do they rejoice all the day; and
through Your righteousness are they exalted.  For You are the glory of
their strength, and in Your favour our horn is exalted.  For of the Lord is
our shiled, and of the Holy One of Israel is our king"

Psalm 133

"A Song of Ascents, of David.  Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for

the collar of his garments, like the dew of HERMON, that comes down upon
the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life
forever".
